At his 15th, the now 18-year-old Geoffrey Mujangi Bia got sent away from Anderlecht. "After problems with the police, we had no other choice", they say in the Astridpark. Speculations are, Bia committed several thefts.
"There were private problems. Problems with the police. That's why we let him go", reports Werner Deraeve, now headscout and Anderlecht's youth coordinator at the time.
"Soccer players live in a group, and it's logical that you have to follow the rules then. You have to give everybody a second chance to make a new start. But it was not a single fact. At a given moment, we couldn't go on giving Mujangi new chances over and over again. His behaviour against people within the club, trainer and direction were no longer acceptable. At a given moment, we had enough of having to get him back on the right track. That was a shame. For the player and for the club", tells Deraeve.
