A few hours ago, the Belgian Football Organisation announced that they are candidate for organising one or more games of Euro 2020. The European Championship of 2020 will be organised all over Europe.
This implies that an agreement about financing the new national stadium has been found. One of the prerequisites was that it had to be build without government subsidies. The Euro Stadium will be constructed on Parking C of the Heysel area. The current national stadium will be demolished. There are currently nine companies interested in doing to actual construction.
This is an interesting evolution for RSC Anderlecht as well. The club has been struggeling with the municipality of Anderlecht for years about enlarging their current home, the Vanden Stock Stadium. That same municipality has also imposed high parking tarifs for visiting home fans. Therefore, the club would not be against moving out of the municipality of Anderlecht. The new national stadium is the only logical alternative...
It's official @UEFAcom! @Belgianfootball and Brussels are candidate for the #euro2020 opening game in a new stadium. #brussels2020
