La Louvière filed a complaint on Monday, because of a disputable goal. Walter Baseggio scored the equaliser, after the ball had exploded on its way to the goal.
The regulations (rule number two, paragraph four) say that "if a ball is damaged during the match, the game should be stopped."
"If the match is resumed, the referee should start the match on the spot where the ball was damaged." But referee Gumienny placed the new ball on the centre-dot...
The complaint of La Louvière will be treated by the Central Referee Commission. They have to decide whether the referee made a mistake or not.
If they come to the conclusion that the referee did make a mistake, then the Sports Committee will have to decide if the match should be replayed.
"None of the referees noticed anything. So Gumienny didn't make a mistake. A replay? I don't think so. This won't happen anymore in a hundred years. It's just like if the ball would stay on the post", explains former referee Frans Van den Wijngaert.
Robert Jeurissen, of the Referee Commission, agrees with Van den Wijngaert. "According to the Fifa, television images should only be used for disciplinary cases", he says.
"This is a technical case. So only the report of the referee and some witnesses can be used. But as already known, the referee didn't see anything."
Adidas, the manufacturer of the ball: "The ball had to be damaged before it exploded. You can't exploded a ball just by kicking it."
