1B Guillaume Gillet's young U23 team is likely to face a difficult few weeks due to the departure of many players to the first team's training camp in Crete. In total, the Futures cannot count on 10 players, to compensate for this, four U18 players are currently training with them.
Abdulrazaq, Ait El Hadj, Angulo, Butera, Duranville, Léoni, Lissens, Sadiki, Vanhoutte and Verbruggen have played at least one game in the Challenger Pro League with the U23s this season, they have now left with the A-team on winter training camp. To this list we can add Sardella, who is injured, and Stroeykens, who is still eligible to play, although he never had the chance to play down a division.
Even if they didn't all train with the group, that's 12 players Guillaume Gillet won't be able to count on for the next few games. To compensate for these absences and the number of players in training, 4 17-year-olds have been promoted from the U18 core. The lucky ones are left back Florian Nicaise (pictured), the versatile Ali Maamar who currently plays right back, attacking midfielder Tistan Degreef and winger Amadou Diallo.
These players, added to the younger players in his squad such as Lapage (18), Ismaeli (17), Lokesa (18), Agyei (17), Herssens (18), Monticelli (17), Stassin (18) and Meese (17), will form a very inexperienced team to face future opponents. However, Neerpede has shown many times that it has many resources. There is no doubt that these young talents are up to the task. Next challenge tonight is against Jong Genk.
