Vertonghen not ready to play

INJURIES No Jan Vertonghen with the Red Devils Saturday night against Austria. The Anderlecht defender was not on the match sheet. National coach Domenico Tedesco said he was insufficiently fit.
 


Because Anderlecht did not play play-offs, Vertonghen was without football for 50 days. Both the player himself and the Red Devils' staff did everything they could to be ready, but in the end he proved insufficiently fit to play.

It is unclear whether he will be able to play on Tuesday against Estonia.

The match between Belgium and Austria ended 1-1. No fewer than seven players with a history with Anderlecht started: Wout Faes, Leander Dendoncker, Orel Mangala, Youri Tielemans, Dodi Lukebakio, Jérémy Doku and Romelu Lukaku. Substitutes Ameen Al-Dakhil, Johan Bakayoko and Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye also played youth football for purple-white.
