EC U21: Belgium eliminated after doubtful penalty kick error Debast

YOUTH The European U21 Championship is over for Zeno Debast and Bart Verbruggen. Both Belgium and the Netherlands were eliminated tonight. Portugal and Georgia advanced. Belgium went out after a late and very debatable penalty kick error by Zeno Debast. Portugal thus won 1-2.


After not disposing of the ball too well, it came back into their own penalty area. Debast went wide to allow goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt to take the ball. A bit too wide, judged the referee, who thought he saw an elbow and called for a penalty. 

Belgium lost 1-2 to finish last in the group with two points. That is one less than the Netherlands. Orange played a 1-1 draw against Georgia and may also go home.
