TRANSFERS 35 million euros. That's the amount Anderlecht will finally pocket for Jérémy Doku. The basic transfer price was €23 million. All kinds of bonuses and the training fee raised that amount to 35 million euro. No one left the Belgian league for more money.

Do the math:

  • 23 million euros: base amount Rennes paid to take over Doku.
  • 2 million euros: bonuses Anderlecht picked up because of Doku's performance at Rennes.
  • 8 million euros: percentage on the capital gains Anderlecht accrued after Doku's transfer to Manchester City. Anderlecht was entitled to 20 per cent of the capital gain if that capital gain was 40 million euros or more. Which it did, as Manchester City paid €65 million for Doku.
  • 2 million euros: training fee

These extra amounts are feathers that that chairman Wouter Vandenhaute can put on his hat. He personally travelled to Rennes at the time to negotiate the deal. Former sporting director Peter Verbeke and legal officer Thibault Dochy also have merit in this.

At a total of €35 million, Doku becomes the most expensive outgoing transfer in Belgium too. Club Brugge last year negotiated a transfer fee of €32 million + €3 million bonuses for Charles De Ketelaere, but those conditions for those bonuses were never met.
