Van Holsbeeck: "A difference of 7 million euro'

The Belgian magazine Humo had an interview with Anderlecht-manager Herman Van Holsbeeck. "Playing Champions League or playing Uefa Cup means a difference of at least 7 million euro".


"We have chosen for youth players this season." so begins Van Holsbeeck. We didn't play Champions League last season, so we had to make a choice: buy older players or go for younger players. We have chosen for the last option and bough Kanu and Suarez".

Do to the many injury's of Frutos, their are rumours going on that Anderlecht will by a new striker. "We won't buy any new players yet. Maybe after we reached the third qualification round of the Champions League, but not now" so says the Anderlecht-manager. "If Frutos won't be able to play against BATE, we are confident our youngsters will be able to replace him".

The manager also looks back to the european Championships. "I felt sorry for our internationals, but I also know that if Polak played another match like he did against Turkey, he wouldn't play for Anderlecht anymore".

Clubs from the East used to be on the same level as Belgian clubs, but this season, Germinal Beerschot was elliminated from the Intertoto-Cup by Neftchi Bakoe from Azerbeidjan. How does Van Holsbeeck feel about this? "This again proves that the Russians have a lot of money to spend. I can only hope that BATE isn't of the same level as Bakoe".
