Guillaume Gillet has truly been involved in Anderlecht's victory last saturday. And wants to be back in national selection as soon as possible, which is not Van Damme's case as he previously said.

« I know what I said but I did not expect it to be such a fuss. I am no star after all. » explains Jelle Van Damme in la Dernière Heure. « I just want to say I am not mad at anyone. All I need is to quiet down a bit before I can longer explain about all this. I doubt and am disappointed in the way I have been treated in national selection. Not only because I was not even on the bench in Turkey. This is a global feeling.»

« I am not in Jelle's mind » adds Gillet. « But I guess he said he wouldn't be wearing national shirt anymore because of disappointment or anger. I am pretty sure he is going to think about that. To me, Van Damme can't stop now because he has a lot of qualities. And, as an example : how many times did Emile Mpenza say he quit national team ? He has always come back. »

About himself, Gillet explains he was a bit more motivated than the usual against Bergen. « I wanted to show I can make the difference. So far, I played with the Red Devils in tough games. But now I feel something is changing. I sense more solidarity in the selection. I hope I will be a part of the games against Armenia and Spain, and not watching TV like I did recently. I have now one month to prove myself with Anderlecht. »

The problem could be there is plenty of midfielders in national selection. « At the international level, I know I did not show yet I can play as a right lateral defender, but I know I can do it even though my best position is central midfielder »
