Anderlecht suffer heavy defeat at Zulte-Waregem

A poor Anderlecht was handed a 4-0 beating by Zulte-Waregem on sunday evening. As a result of this dramatic defeat, Anderlecht sees rivals Standard and Bruges increase the gap.


Leye put the home-team ahead halfway through the first half. Anderlecht were lucky that a second goal was erroneously disallowed for off-side. With Iakovenko, Legear and Goor on the pitch and Bulykin surprisingly in the stands, Anderlecht could not create chances against a battling Zulte-Waregem.

Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs tried to turn the tide by bringing Nicolas Frutos at the start of the second half. But the return of the lenghty Argentinian striker after a long and controversial recovery could not aid the visitors in its search for a goal.

On the contrary, Zulte-Waregem went on to score three more goals through Matton, Roelandts and Mutombo. A shocking defeat that left Anderlecht redfaced.
