RSCA-Standard 1-1 - Wasyl and Polak to the hospital

Anderlecht obtained a draw against Standard: 1-1. Mbokani and Gillet scored the goals. Though the result is not important. What is, was the outrageous behaviour of the Standard players who badly injured Polak and Wasilewski.


The game started rather chaotic with both teams trying to take control. It was Anderlecht that proved to be stronger, creating a few excellent chances through Suarez. But then, the horror scenario began. De Camargo tackled Polak from behind, leaving him with torn ligaments. Several minutes later, Witsel stepped with a streched leg on Wasilewski's leg, who was lying on the ground. Red for Witsel while the Polish Anderlecht defender suffered a double open leg fracture and was carried off the field after being stabilized by the doctors. His career might be over.

The game resumed in a boiling Vanden Stock Stadium. The Standard players were hissed at, coins and sticks were thrown on the field as a reaction on the terrible behaviour of the Belgian champions. Anderlecht was clearly in shock and Mbokani took advantage of it. With Anderlecht's defense (litteraly) crippled, he managed to score: 0-1.

Anderlecht's reaction was furious and Gillet almost immediately equalised.

In the second half, Standard carried on with unfair play, while Anderlecht tried to seek an opening in the 10 men Standard defense. Anderlecht finally scored the 2-1 via Van Damme, but the referee had seen hands play while Van Damme was clearly pushed down in the box. The Mauves created more chances, but also Standard counter attacked swiftly. Luckily, Proto was alert and he saved two good chances.

The final score was 1-1, but to remember was the behaviour of Standard. After knocking Boussoufa into the hospital last season, now Polak and Wasilewski suffered the same faith. Shame on you, Standard! This is unworthy of a Belgian champion...
