Tuesday September 1st is for a lot of youngsters the start of a new school year. As well for Romelu Lukaku, the 16-year old striker who’ll start his 5th year in high school where he is studying PR.

"I realise getting a degree is essential in life. Thanks to the Purple Talents – project, I can combine school and football. It allows me to train twice a day without getting behind at school,” Lukaku says on rsca.be. “When I signed my first contract at Anderlecht, I also promised my parents I would get my degree.”

There isn’t a lot of free time left for Lukaku “Well, it’s like that now. Last season I woke up at 6.45 am and came back home at 8.45pm. But I’m used to it. And eventually I get rewarded for the hard work I do. When I trained with the A – team for the first time, I was so tired at night. But I’m a fighter, I know I have to work hard to succeed. I also do this for my 15-year old brother. I want to be an example for him.”

In the meantime, Lukaku has been selected for the national B-team which made him miss the first week of school. “I’ll work for school during my free hours. That’s the agreement we made.”
