Van Damme confirms contact with Standard

Jelle Van Damme admitted in an interview that he did had contact with Standard concerning a transfer. The club and the player even negotiated at the end of August. Not only Standard, but also a foreign team was interested.

Right before the game against Sivasspor Van Damme caused a small riot by asking not to put him on the field to play. He wanted to increase his chances to get a transfer. “I could earn more money, so it’s normal you’re selfish and think about that. I didn’t want to leave, but it was just a new opportunity for me.”

But Van Damme stayed and has absolutely no regrets. “I’m glad I didn’t go.”
