Anderlecht had a bad afternoon today. Losing 4-2 against Club Brugge and seeing three more players getting injured: Legear, Deschacht and Bernardez. Luckily there are no league matches next weekend due to international games.
The game started in balance. Both clubs were looking for the opening, but couldn't find it. The first real chance was for Akpala, but Proto saved his effort. But then Alcaraz opened the score with a header: 1-0. Anderlecht reacted immediately with a shot of Legear on the post. A few minutes later, De Sutter equalised.
Captain Deschacht was replaced with an injury by Bernardez and the home side took the lead again when a shot was deviated by Van Damme in his own goal: 2-1. Two minutes later, Sonck scored on a counter attack: 3-1.
Anderlecht tried to react in the second half, but trainer Jacobs' options were limited, since Legear also had to be replaced with an injury. With him gone, Anderlecht lost their capability to create chances. There was some pressure though and the referee denied the visitors a penalty when Biglia was brought down in the box. But soon, Brugge restored the balance. Meanwhile Lukaku had entered the field and when defender Bernardez also got injured, Anderlecht had to continue with ten. The Brussels' team tried to force an opening in the defence with one player less, but the home side scored on another counter attack through Vargas. In stoppage time, De Sutter scored his second, putting the 4-2 final result on the scoreboard.
