Anderlecht defeated Westerlo yesterday night with 2-0. Polak got a red card after just 20 minutes, but that didn't stop the Mauves from winning the game. The Belgian champions now close in to 5 points on Genk.
Westerlo started better than the Anderlecht, that seemed to be napping. Luckily, the visiting strikers were offside on every attempt. Anderlecht had one chance via Boussoufa, but his effort was stopped by the goalie.
When Polak got red for a reaction after a foul, Anderlecht woke up and moved forward with just ten men. There were some small chances, but eventually Lukaku scored. He held off two men in the box and placed the ball under the goalkeeper in the left corner. Westerlo just had one good possibility to equalise, but a good Proto made a magnificent save. The rebound struck the post: 1-0 at half time.
The second half was less exciting, with Anderlecht controlling the game and Westerlo unable to do something about the scoreline. Proto was needed one more time with a fantastic save to keep the nill on the scoreboard.
When the visitors made an own goal on a corner kick, the game was over. Remarkable was also that Anderlecht lost Deschacht with a serious ankle injury.
