Zenit proved to be better from the start. The Russians monopolised the ball and scored from their first chance. Ionov slipped past Lecjaks and scored. Anderlecht could not created any decent chance and was only dangerous with efforts from outside the box. The home side on the other hand, missed two big chances to double the lead.

Anderlecht took a better start in the second half. The Brussels' team developed some pressure, but was unable to create chances. Zenit scored on a counter attack via Boecharov who was allowed free passage by the failing Anderlecht defence.

Out of nowhere, Kanu managed to head the 2-1 against the net on a center of Lecjaks. Though one minute later the Russians partied again with a goal of Huszti.

With AEK winning in Split, the Mauves now need to take the three points against that same Split on the last matchday. Meanwhile Zenit, already qualified and playing their last game before the winter break, has to beat AEK...
