Embarrassing draw enough for spineless Anderlecht

An incredibly weak Anderlecht dragged themselves into the group phase of the Europa League. The home side excelled in defensive mistakes and swallowed two goals. Juhasz and Jovanovic scored for Anderlecht.


The game had just started and goalkeeper Proto could already pick the ball out of the net. A weak Safari did nothing to keep Bahadir from scoring.

Anderlecht slowly took control over the game, but couldn't create much danger because of many bad passes and a low pace. Suarez had the best chance, but alone in front of an open goal he just played the ball back to the goalie with a weak effort.

Close to the end of the first half, Anderlecht seemd qualified for sure when Juhasz equalised with a header.

But the second half was even weaker! For a long time nothing happened. Anderlecht and Bursaspor both too weak to force a break-through. A single good attack eventually ended in a goal: Jovanovic scored in the rebound.

Over and out for Bursaspor, everybody thought ... besides Safari! The Swedish defender had front row tickets to see Stepanov equalise: 2-2.

Anderlecht completely collapsed and the holes in the defence even became bigger. Sak was on his way to score the winning goal for the Turks, but Kanu returned in time to hinder him sufficiently. With one minute to play, Proto had to keep Odabasi from scoring. The Turks piled up the corner kicks and the home side, struck by fear, couldn't advance for one meter.

Shuddering and shaking Anderlecht managed to qualify, after an embarrassing draw against Bursaspor: 2-2.
