Today an important decision will be made about the Eurostadium in Brussels. On the agenda is the construction of the running track. The Flemish Government demanded a solution for the 'Memorial Van Damme', an athelics event.

The 'Memorial Van Damme' is one of the IAAF Diamond League meetings and takes place in the King Baudouin Stadium. But with the construction of the Eurostadium, the King Baudouin Stadium (or former Heysel), will be destroyed. But constructing a running track is economically not feasable since the stadium will largely be funded by private companies, such as Anderlecht.

It's expected that a different solution will have to be found. There are two options: keeping the King Baudouin Stadium for the Memorial Van Damme or using the stadium of Racing Brussels (bankrupt) for the event.

Why is this important? Anderlecht always refused to play in a stadium with a running track. If the Eurostadium is going to have one, the Mauves will continue with their plans to enlarge their current Vanden Stock Stadium. If not, it's likely they'll move out of Anderlecht into the new ground.

To be continued...
