Anderlecht did not succeed in qualifying for the Europe Play-Offs after losing the last match of the season with 2-3. This way, Anderlecht had the worst season since 1937!

The match started well for Anderlecht though with a goal by Stroeykens after just five minutes. Anderlecht continued looking for a second goal and had a handful of chances to score but Sardella, Amuzu, Dreyer and Slimani all missed.

On a rare counter attach, Mechelen equalised through Schoofs. Two minutes later, Schoofs even gave the visitors the lead. A third goal from Schoofs was overruled by the VAR: 1-2 at half-time.

Anderlecht kept looking for the equaliser and found it after 52 minutes through Slimani. But then, the offensive collapsed. 8 minutes before the end, bad defending allowed Bates to score the 2-3, which was the final score.
