Walter Baseggio will probably leave Anderlecht at the end of this season. The midfielder doesn't get much chances to play anymore. In Genk, he entered the field after 88 minutes, even after talent Marc Deman (who replaced Lovre).

Baseggio reacted disappointed. "Maybe this was one season too much in Anderlecht. But it's the trainer who decides. I'm not mad. I'll train and do my best to get back to the highest level. I'm sure I can make it."

"Though I think it's better for me to leave Anderlecht. This is the worst season I've ever had, and I'm already playing in Brussels for 9 years. I'll decide in two months", said Baseggio.

"It all depends on the transfer fee Anderlecht want. I might wait until 2008, when my contract ends. And yes, there are still clubs interested: Italian and French ones."

Last year, the press linked Baseggio to Inter Milan. But that seems already long forgotten. "Yes, I missed that opportunity. I wanted to stay here, but I don't regret my choice."

Could Baseggio go to another Belgian club? "You never know. Stoica left for Brugge, Walem for Standard. But I prefer going abroad then."

Former-coach Hugo Broos and former-player Wim De Coninck also critisized Walt. "Broos is just angry with Anderlecht. De Coninck's comments are really bad. What did he ever reach in his carreer? How many European games did he play? (None)"

Baseggio also added that he wanted to honour the pope, but the club refused the give him two days off. "The pope is like a god in my home-land, Italy."
