Westerlo wanted Gerk and Iachtchouk

Not only Christian Wilhelmsson, Vincent Kompany and Walter Baseggio had the opportunity to leave Anderlecht. There was also interest for Anatoli Gerk and Oleg Iachtchouk. They both had the chance to move to Westerlo.


Westerlo had contacted Anderlecht on Tuesday. Eventually, the deal was cancelled. The Anderlecht-board didn't want Gerk to leave, and Iachtchouk was only allowed to leave on a definitive transfer. Westerlo only wanted him on loan.

"Buying Iachtchouk had been too expensive", explained Westerlo-manager Herman Wijnants. "It is a pitty, because Gerk could have brought a lot of creativity into our attack and Iachtchouk really is a talented striker."
