KVC Westerlo striker Bjorn De Wilde has been left with a broken nose after a "horrible" attack by rival fans. The striker broke his nose and will be out for at least three weeks.
The 26-year-old was on his way home with his girlfriend after watching the UEFA Champions League match between RSC Anderlecht and Real Betis Balompié in Brussels on Wednesday. De Wilde said: "I got a knock on the back of the head, and my girlfriend Eveline was also pushed. I wanted to walk past, but then I got kicked and was punched in the face."
Police are investigating the attack, while De Wilde is contemplating at least three weeks on the sidelines. He added: "It was horrible, especially when you consider that I am a true Anderlecht fan."
