Standard: "We are being abused by Anderlecht"

Standard de Liège deny the rumours that they are interested in Anderlecht midfielder Walter Baseggio. "We are being abused by Anderlecht to make Baseggio catch the attention on the transfer market", Standard manager François says.


"Former coach Johan Boskamp was interested in Baseggio last summer, but since that day we haven't even talked about the midfielder." Also Walter Baseggio himself doesn't know anything about any interest. "I wasn't contacted by Standard. I have a contract here for another year and I want to become a key player here", Baseggio states.

"Baseggio doesn't have to leave Anderlecht", manager Van Holsbeeck reacts. "He just has to do everything to earn his place in the team. That doesn't mean that a transfer of the midfielder isn't negotiable. If Standard are interested, they can always contact us", Van Holsbeeck says.
