Again Anderlecht did not succeed in maintaining a lead. The Brussels club soon came 1-0 ahead, but wavered in the second half. A free kick by Hoffman levelled the score ten minutes before time.

In the first period, Rapid Wien focussed on being organised and let Anderlecht handle possesion of the ball. That soon led to a pretty goal of Serhat Akin. The Turkish striker knocked in the rebound after Payer parried his first shot.

In the second period, Rapid was much more dangerous. Wasilewski was lucky to save an early equaliser. Anderlecht did not maintain its dominance and created only a few chances. Ten minutes before the final whistle Hofmann leveled the score. He curled in a free kick that left the Anderlecht side stunned.

Anderlecht will have a tough job in Wien if it wants to qualify for the next round.
