Reformation of the 1st division?

The G5 (Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Standard, RC Genk and AA Gent) want to reform the league. From next season, there might be 2 groups formed in the 2nd leg of the league. In one group, the weakest teams will fight against relegation.

In the other group, the strongest teams will fight for Champions League and UEFA-cup tickets.
The G5 discussed this all in the last few months. Since the league will keep existing out of 18 teams, the chances for success are higher. The former plans to reduce the first division to 14 clubs had lots op opposition. When a team doesn't get its lisence, it will be cut from the highest division.
GBA, Lierse, Lokeren and STVV are most likely going to agree with the plan. If the plan gets the majority of the votes before June, the reformation will affect on the 1st division next year.
The most important thing is to create balance in the calender on the sportive and financial aspect. The idea is to make special agreements when a club is playing against a top-club etc. The whole concept will be discussed on November 8 with the other clubs of the Profliga...
