Profliga-secretarian Robert Sterckx has a new plan to reform the Belgian league. The first devision will only count 14 clubs in the future, that was already known. But now Sterckx proposes a league with play-offs.

The first six in the ranking will play for the title and the European places. The teams from the 7th place until the 11th must play with the champion from the second division for more money prices, while the last 3 of the first division must fight against relegation with the 3 'trimester-champions' of the second division. 4 Teams will relegate.
Sterckx wants 28 professional clubs, so also the second division will count 14 teams in the future. The plans for this must first be discussed with the clubs and later send to the Belgian Football Association.
Sterckx gives the following explaination for his plan: "If we play with less teams, there will be less games and less money for them. So a play-off is needed to compensate that." But there is of course the danger that the normal league will lose the interest of the crowd. Sterckx reacts on this by saying that at this moment, the league only gets interesting after the winter break.
