OTHER Despite the fact that Anderlecht will move to the new national stadium, on the condition that all permits are being granted, the club has also received approval for the enlargement of their current stadium.

The Mauves have been betting on two horses:

  • Moving to the new national stadium which will be constructed on Parking C of the Heysel area
  • Enlarging their own stadium to about 30.000 seats
The procedure for the enlargement of the Vanden Stock Stadium has been ongoing for more than three years. The municipality of Anderlecht had several objections about the enlargement, more or less forcing Anderlecht to their first alternative. Now that the decision has been made, the council of Anderlecht approved the stadium enlargement anyway. The mayor stressed that the sudden approval had nothing to do with the move. This way, the Mauves have at least a backup plan.
