This season, however, remains unchanged. Any U23 side that is relegated must be replaced by another U23 team promoted from the amateur divisions, ensuring that four development teams remain active at the country's second professional level. RSC Anderlecht receives its licence

RSC Anderlecht receives its licence

RSC Anderlecht is among the clubs that have already been granted their professional licence for next season. Remarkably, almost a third of Belgian clubs still need to regularise their files. Of the 34 professional clubs, 11 were not granted their licence in the first instance — a rising number compared with last year that underlines the persistent financial and structural problems in Belgian football. While clubs such as Zulte Waregem and Dender still have to convince the commission, Anderlecht is now regarded as an organisation that is stable, solid and compliant with the Pro League's requirements. Search for new sports director at Anderlecht goes on

Marc Coucke remains closely involved despite the distance

Although club owner Marc Coucke was recently abroad, he continues to follow Anderlecht's performances closely. According to Bornauw, Coucke doesn't miss a single match, not even those of the reserve team; he even watched a game during a flight, underlining his involvement. The results clearly affect him: after a disappointing showing against Cercle Brugge, the owner reportedly made no attempt to hide his dissatisfaction. Inside the club there is an awareness that a better result just before the play-offs could have provided a mental boost. Read more »

Taravel's golden move: replacing Hazard with De Cat

What did Jérémy Taravel change in Anderlecht's tactics? A Het Nieuwsblad journalist analysed the Mauve-and-White's matches through a tactical lens and finds that Taravel has shifted Thorgan Hazard's position, which has helped the midfield perform better. Under Besnik Hasi and Will Still, Hazard was used as the most offensive player in the midfield triangle. The 32-year-old, however, is not the most mobile and his defensive output is limited. Unlikely that De Cat will sign a new contract

It increasingly looks like Nathan De Cat is in his final months at Anderlecht. A contract extension is ready, but the entourage of the 17-year-old midfielder still won't bite. Since De Cat's contract runs until 2027, the purple-and-white will have to sell him this summer to secure a (admittedly very handsome) transfer fee. De Cat extended his contract in September 2024 by three years, the maximum allowed for a minor. Read more »

Taravel can only remain head coach until April 10

Whether Jérémy Taravel can remain Anderlecht's head coach is above all an administrative matter. The club must appoint a coach with a UEFA Pro licence by 10 April at the latest — a qualification Taravel does not have. After the dismissal of Besnik Hasi and the swift departure of Edward Still the position was officially vacant; licensing rules require a qualified replacement within 60 days. If that deadline is missed Anderlecht risks fines and, in the worst case, jeopardising its European licence. Read more »
