Humiliating defeat in Qarabag

GAMES Qualification for the next Europa League round suddenly became difficult. After a terrible performance, Anderlecht lost against the unknown club Qarabag: 1-0.

The first half can be summerised in one word: terrible. Anderlecht had clearly underestimated their opponent and played slow and uninterested. Qarabag scored half way the first half when Almeida was given a lot of space to advance from the midfield. His effort went in after a mistake of Proto.

Anderlecht tried to change the situation in the second half. The Belgians monopolized the ball and created several chances. They were also unlucky on two efforts that probably had crossed the goal line but linesmen and referee did not see it, on both occasions. Yet there were more than enough other opportunities to turn the tide. But scoring remains a problem for Anderlecht... Qarabag continued to be dangerous on the counter attack, but could be lucky in the end with the 1-0 victory.

 After the game, the Anderlecht direction board decided to financially compensate the fans that made the long travel to support their team, in an effort to make up for the ashaming performance.
