Gillet: "Happy I could say goodbye"

INTERVIEWS Guillaume Gillet left Anderlecht to join FC Nantes last month. The midfielder doubted about the transfer for a long time. "Until the very last moment I believe Anderlecht would give me a better offer", Gillet reacts.

"I had the opportunity to extend my contract with two extra years but that was not sufficient for me. We did not reach an agreement but I always believed we could. I only realized I was leaving when chairman Vanden Stock gave me a signed shirt as a souvenir."

Last summer, Gillet was likely to leave but in the end he still played half a season at Anderlecht. "In the end, I am happy I still played at Anderlecht. At least I got the chance to say goodbye. I am convinced it was the best timing to leave Anderlecht. However, it will hurt to see them play against Olympiakos."
