GAMES Anderlecht is in trouble, that much is clear after new loss of points and this time against the last team in the ranking. The Purple & White played uninspired, swallowed two goals again and again missed a penalty. It remained stuck on a 2-2 draw.
The home team took a poor start but quickly took the lead. Morioka brought the ball well and Ganvoula cleverly headed the 1-0 against the ropes. KV Mechelen was not impressed and had already threatened for the opening goal several times. Sels initially kept Anderlecht straight, but Bandé equalized five minutes after the 1-0. From then on it went downhill with the Belgian champion: Mechelen had the better chances and even scored when Spajic deviated the ball in his own goal. The defense cracked, but Sels prevented further damage: 1-2 at halftime.
Even after the break there was little improvement, despite bringing in Chipciu and Gerkens. Anderlecht tried, but lacked creativity and conviction to make something of it. Ganvoula did equal with his second header of the evening, but there was not much more threat. KV Mechelen lured on the counter, but was not clever enough to score.
Ten minutes before time it could still have happened: Morioka was hit in the sixteen: penalty. The Japanese himself stood behind the ball ... and kicked beside. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. A lost season threatens purple-white.
