INTERVIEWS Since the beginning of this year, Frank Arnesen has been the man who arranges the transfers for Anderlecht. In January, he only got two new players and had Kara return. A conscious move. "I resisted doing a lot of transfers. I even had to stop three transfers," he said in Het Laatste Nieuws.

According to Arnesen, Marc Coucke and Michael Verschueren wanted to attract more players, but he stopped them. "I am a technical director who thinks along with the club. When I joined, we had 42 players under contract. You can't keep buying."

Moreover, says Arnesen, he did not know the core sufficiently. "In my first two weeks I examined the core. Then we had one more week to do transfers. Then you shouldn't be fooled. I don't believe in the winter mercato that much."

Bolasia untenable

With Yannick Bolasie, Arnesen did attract a big name from the Premier League. Although on a rental basis. "Keeping him becomes impossible. What Everton pays him, we cannot do that," said Arnesen.
