INTERVIEWS Peter Zulj arrived in January as the best player in Austria and with great confidence. The last few weeks he barely plays. In Het Laatste Nieuws, technical director Frank Arnesen shows understanding and lists some reasons for Zulj's decline.
"Zulj comes from a competition that is less strong than the Belgian one. Moreover, he does not come from one of the top clubs, but from Sturm Graz. You can win at that club, at the top clubs you have to win," Arnesen says.
"Moreover, he stopped for a whole month before he came to Anderlecht. I thought it was a good start, although he was not in good shape at the time", says Arnesen, who also sees a third explanation. "Due to the successive defeats, he has lost his confidence. Just like the rest of the team."
Arnesen is not giving up on Zulj yet. Two weeks ago he called for the Austrian. "He said that he is genuinely sorry that he can not bring more. But he is someone who is in the starting eleven of every international match and always performs well."
