TRANSFERS Sebastiaan Bornauw (20) has signed a contract at FC Köln (Cologne) as expected. The young defender made his debut last season and has now chosen to continue his career in the Bundesliga.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Seb", says Michael Verschueren about Bornauw who has signed a contract until 2024. Bornauw has been a part of 'Paars-wit' for ten years. Former coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck dropped Bornauw in the team during the previous season's opener against Kortrijk. As a defender, Bornauw is physically strong, but player-manager Vincent Kompany prefers footballing defenders. Kompany has already mentioned though that Bornauw didn't have to leave and that he has enjoyed working with him.
"The Bundesliga is a very strong and popular competition. I had already been following the games and FC Cologne is a team with a long tradition and great fans", concludes Bornauw about his new destination, where he will play with the number 33.
