INTERVIEWS Michael Verschueren wants to have a selection of 26 players by 1 September. He indicates this in Het Nieuwsblad. The sports director also talks about names and positions in the newspaper. He says that the arrival of a new central defender is more likely than an extra striker.

New striker?
On Saturday at L'Avenir it was still sounding that a second new striker would come next to Kemar Roofe, now Verschueren speaks a different language. "That is no longer a priority for the time being. We have Roofe and Thelin. That last one has certainly not been written off."

New defender?
Antonio Milic, James Lawrence and Josué Sa have to leave. "If they leave all three, there will certainly be an extra central defender," said Verschueren.

New midfielder?
Some fans dream of Lucas Biglia to fill in the crucial position as a defensive midfielder. Verschueren must disappoint them. "We have thoroughly studied the Biglia track internally. Including scouting reports and discussions with Kompany, but then decided not to take him. It is too early to say that Peter Zulj is not good enough for that position. In a few weeks, Sambi Lokonga will also be fit again. "

About Kums
Sven Kums was in the stands for the first two games. What is happening to him? "For each match, Kompany chooses the best eighteen players of the moment. I spoke with Kums a few times and he remains friendly and motivated. He is going to fight and we are not pushing him to the exit. But whether he still has a future with us, is the decision of Kompany. "

About Trebel
Where Kums is allowed to stay, Adrien Trebel has to leave. A transfer seems to be in sight. "We are evolving towards a solution", says Verschueren.

About Saelemaekers
And what about Alexis Saelemaekers? Against Ostend on the bench for ninety minutes, against Mouscron in the stands. "We are not pushing him to leave. He has to decide for himself if he wants to compete. If he turns the switch, we are very satisfied with him."
