Even against Waasland-Beveren, Anderlecht couldn't score

GAMES After the four-part against strong opponents on paper, Anderlecht didn't get any further than a scoreless draw against a weak Waasland-Beveren at home. It is gradually becoming clear that it will be extremely difficult for this Anderlecht to reach Play-Off I.


The game started as a fun exercise game at the end of June on a sunny summer evening. Anderlecht lacked the necessary pace, grinta and quality to put pressure on Waasland-Beveren, let alone to create opportunities. Waasland-Beveren itself was not really dangerous either. Verschaeren nevertheless had a good chance, but he failed to score. On the stroke of half-time, Roofe turned away from his opponent for the first time, but he shot over.

Before the change, Anderlecht started the second half well with a higher pace and with chances from Nasri and Sambi Lokonga, who played higher on the midfield. Chadli aimed on Jackers, Nasri shot over and Luckassen headed on the bar. It seemed a matter of time before the 1-0 would happen, but the lack of scoring ability proved to be a stumbling block again. Waasland-Beveren managed to regularly interrupt the pace and referee Boterberg waited until the 80th minute to give the first yellow card to the Waaslanders. After tampering of Luckassen, Anderlecht was lucky that Waasland-Beveren did not pull the trigger.

The Purple-and-white replacements no longer brought the necessary and so Anderlecht got stuck on a disappointing draw. At the end of September, Kompany still does not seem to have a basic team in mind and scoring continues to be a problem of huge proportions. Players keep disappearing from the starting eleven to the stand and change positions, but no matter who and where is playing, real improvement doesn't seem to be going on at the moment. In this way, Anderlecht remain desolate in the league and the hope of getting well soon gets a big blow week after week, regardless of the opponent now called Club Brugge or Waasland-Beveren.
