GAMES Anderlecht beat Zulte Waregem on Friday with 1-2. The gap with the first six, is slowly closing and reaching Play-Off 1 may therefore still be possible. Peter Zulj played an important role in the scoreline: first he lost the ball leading to Zulte Waregem's equaliser, but not much later he gave the pass leading up to the winning goal.
Anderlecht took a fantastic start: Roofe intercepted a pass from Oberin and brilliantly opened for Chadli who scored the opening goal after just four minutes: 0-1. The Mauves dominated the match and had more chances to increase the lead. Chadli, Saelemaekers and Sambi Lokonga weren't able to score though. Van Crombrugge was needed once to save an attempt of Larin on the other side.
The second half wasn't too good: Zulte Waregem increased the pressure and Anderlecht couldn't set up a counter attack anymore. The pace was simply too low and there were too many errors in the passing. The home team didn't create serious chances either though. Yet coach Vercauteren saw the quality of his team deteriorate and reacted by bringing Zulj for Saelemaekers, hoping to have more stability on the midfield. Zulj was immediately important: in the heart of the defence, he simply lost the ball to Larin and scored an easy equaliser: 1-1.
Everyone thought Zulte Waregem would now increase the pressure further and go for the win, but a rare Anderlecht counter attack led to Kemar Roofe's goal: Zulj brilliantly led Roofe through the defence. The English player remained calm, dribbled around the goalkeeper and placed the ball into the empty goal: 1-2. Anderlecht defended the lead with ease and won.
