INTERVIEWS Coach Frank Vercauteren was satisfied with the draw in Antwerp, although he was also disappointed because the three points were not achieved. Vercauteren, however, was realistic enough to realize that a draw was the highest attainable.
Vercauteren thought defensively that Anderlecht were in a good position and that again no goals were given. Offensive, the coach saw that the level against Genk was not matched and that a number of players apparently struggled with the rapid succession of the matches. Vercauteren saw a number of small opportunities in the second half, which meant that the win would not have been impossible.
"If the defense always does its job and keeps the zero, we can still get far," said Vercauteren. Now, however, we have to step up a gear too.
Despite the point, Anderlecht are not making much progress in the race for play-off 1, especially now that KV Mechelen won their game. Vercauteren said not to look up too much, especially with the upcoming game against Club Brugge in prospect. "We will only shift our focus when PO I is no longer mathematically possible," Vercauteren concluded.
