Vanaken ruined Colassin's strong debut

GAMES Anderlecht started 2020 with a 1-2 loss against Club Brugge. A shame, because unlike last month's cup match, we saw a strong Anderlecht. The Purple & White played strong especially before the break, with Colassin as the best player.


Coach Vercauteren surprised with Colassin's first place in the starting eleven. The 18-year-old striker did not miss his start. Already in the first minute he headed on the crossbar. A minute later he forced Mignolet to a good save. Anderlecht reign in the beginning. Even though it was a bit of a shock when Kompany had to save an Okereke ball from the line.

Halfway through the first half the third try was the good one for Colassin. He set up a one-two with Saelemaekers and, controlled in control, passed Mignolet through the furthest post. What a debut! Anderlecht finally saw his 57 percent possession rewarded. The anticlimax followed five minutes before the break. Vanaken received a deflected free kick and scored the equalizer. Saelemaekers still had chance to score 2-1 at half-time, but he missed.

After the break it was all a bit less. The Bruges defense got a better grip on Colassin and the visitors came better in the match, partly due to two substitutions. Dennis missed the 1-2. Vercauteren then pulled a pale Doku to the side in favor of Amuzu. He immediately got a chance, but his shot was blocked.

In the final phase the game  could go in all directions, but if things go wrong, things go wrong and if things go well, things go well. Ten minutes before time, De Ketelaere put the ball back to Vanaken, who kicked the 1-2 past Van Crombrugge against the ropes. But so, if things go wrong ... Three minutes before time, Saelemaekers found Mignolet on his way. The rebound ended up at Amuzu, but he kicked the ball in front of an empty goal on ... Saelemaekers. That's a shame, because Anderlecht didn't deserve a defeat.

In the final minutes, the excellent Colassin received another applause replacement and a miscreant from the Anderlecht section threw a bomb in the direction of Mignolet. Kompany was able to calm things down.
