"Arsenal wanted Killian as central midfielder"

Last year, Sardella collected 17 places in the starting eleven as right or left back. That went with ups and downs and the necessary criticism as a result. "Killian had difficult moments as a wing defender, but he is mentally strong and always fights back", father Dino Sardella tells Het Nieuwsblad today.

The back was therefore an unusual position for the now 18-year-old Sardella. He was always central in defense in his youth games. "At Ostend I immediately saw the Killian of the youth again", Dino refers mainly to the footballing qualities of his son. "He feels more at ease centrally. Killian has the feeling to launch the game. In the youth he was sometimes compared to Kompany because he also feels so comfortable with the ball at the foot."

In the center, Sardella has the disadvantage of its figure. He measures 1m78 and does not have the physical presence of a Kompany or Cobbaut. "Two years ago Arsenal wanted him, but as a central midfielder. He is not big enough for an English defense. But he solves that with a lot of jumping power and he also gained muscle strength", father Sardella concludes.
