GAMES This Anderlecht remains a strange team. After two very bad games, it won with 1-3 this afternoon on the field of Standard. It certainly didn't play great and Standard didn't do much of it either, but the three points were actually a must in the battle for Play-off 1. Anderlecht struck twice out of nowhere and Standard was unable to tie in the final phase. Dauda finally punished the risks of Liège.

Halfway through, Anderlecht led with 0-1. There was not much to note before the break, although it was an energetic match. Lawrence showed that after two minutes and he was lucky that only yellow was shown. Standard threatened for the first time with a shot from Klauss. The first opportunity for the Purple & White was immediately a goal. Bad defence from Liège was punished by Amuzu. The winger was able to finish nicely from a very oblique angle and give Anderlecht the lead.

Standard was unable to respond with scoring opportunities. Carcela shot diagonally on target, but Wellenreuther had no problem with it. Both teams lost a lot of balls and were rarely dangerous. After a slalom of Nmecha, Mukairu almost reached Amuzu and in the added time Diaby missed his deviation after Amuzu's cross pass.

Even after the break it remained difficult for both teams. Every now and then Anderlecht tried to find depth with the long ball. Wellenreuther, who played well before half time, almost got a silly goal againt. The goalkeeper shot onto Klauss, but the ball slowly rolled next to the goal. A combination between Mukairu and Nmecha was called offside, while Diaby was waiting centrally.

In the 64th minute, referee Lambrechts was very mild for Gavory, who had just been booked. He went hard on Dauda's ankles. In minute 70, the Purple & White doubled his lead, just as surprising as before half time. Lawrence took the ball after a free kick. The ball was touched a bit, but stranded nicely and low in goal behind Bodart.

Fifteen minutes before the end, Delcroix dropped out injured. Sardella was his replacement. Dauda could have headed Anderlecht to 0-3 after a corner kick. A first dangerous action by Standard resulted in the 1-2 in the 83rd minute. Anderlecht taking it a bit too easy and Amallah turned his shot into the top corner. Five minutes later, substitute Muleka almost scored the 2-2, but his shot went over. Dauda did no better on the other side. The Ghanaian forgot to score again when he was passed by Bruun Larsen at the penalty spot. Standard took risks, but did not have the quality to have another chance. Dauda eventually brought salvation. The striker was completely free with his third chance and now managed to hit.

With this victory, Anderlecht stays in the footsteps of Play-off 1, although it becomes clear that it will not be allowed to spill much with points in the coming weeks, starting against KV Mechelen next Sunday. First the important confrontation against Cercle Brugge in the cup awaits.
