GAMES Anderlecht took maximum advantage of AA Gent's draw yesterday afternoon. In an excellent match, it beat Charleroi with 4-0. The team has its fate for the Champions' Play-Offs fully in its own hands again.
From the first whistle, Anderlecht showed they were determined to keep the three points at home. Purple and white pushed Charleroi to the back and after twenty minutes that resulted in the 1-0 score. Kouamé profited from a mistake by goalkeeper Koffi. Verschaeren, Hoedt and Zirkzee tried to double the lead, but without success. Ten minutes before the break Verschaeren dropped out with a groin injury.
After the break Charleroi looked a little better for a while, but hopes were quickly dashed. Refaelov first hit the fists of Koffi, but a few minutes later Zirkzee rounded off a flawless counter-attack: 2-0. El Hadj and Amuzu went in search of the 3-0. Amuzu scored on his second attempt. Murillo even made it 4-0 in the final minutes.
Thanks to this victory, Anderlecht starts next week's final match in fourth place. With a win in Kortrijk, it is certain of the Champioins' Play-Offs. If Gent doesn't win against OH Leuven, it will be sure as well.
