GAMES Anderlecht is experiencing very sad times. Trailing 3-1, the match against Standard was stopped after Anderlecht 'supporters' threw a pile of fireworks on the pitch for a second time. This also happened once in 2019 at a 2-0 score.

This results in a defeat anyway and one must hope that no points deduction follows, points that this Anderlecht desperately needs. Next week follows yet another crucial match, this time against the weak FCSB in Europe and against Eupen in the league. But isn't this Anderlecht even weaker than these opponents?

The smoke had barely cleared or Anderlecht scored itself once early in the match. Refaelov crossed and Verschaeren kicked unstoppable past Bodart. After a first solid quarter of an hour from Anderlecht, a number of breakaways were not well played after the 0-1, Standard came up. Dussenne first headed a corner against the post. After losing the ball in midfield, the home team had another chance, but now the angle was too sharp. On the next attack, it was a winner. Raskin was given free rein to cross almost the entire half and his shot whirled into goal via Vertonghen. Five minutes later another deviated attempt could be unseated, but Standard continued to press. A corner was clumsily cleared for Van Crombrugge, Fossey slotted the 2-1 in at the far post.

There was no longer any sign of the solid start. Anderlecht struggled with the pace and could not keep the ball in its own ranks for five seconds. It sent one lost deep ball after another. Purple and White seemed to already feel the mental blow of another defeat. Fortunately, Standard itself took some gas and Purple-White chalked up a goal at the halftime signal.

After halftime, Debast remained injured in the locker room. From the moment Standard regained some pressure for the first time, it was hit again. Zinckernagel headed the 3-1 into the goal from close range. Amuzu was thinking about his missed transfer to Nice. After the 3-1, the game was stopped after the feared actions of the visiting Anderlecht supporters. They then decided to take care of some fireworks themselves, but with such silly actions you obviously only throw oil on the fire and get your own club in trouble.

After a first interruption, another salvo of fireworks from the Anderlecht box soon followed and referee Van Driessche was obliged to stop the match for good. Incomprehensible, because this does not help Anderlecht at all, on the contrary. It can be additionally penalized in addition to the logical defeat, especially since this also happened once in 2019 at Standard.
