Matthys: 'Anderlecht is a big club and always will be'

INTERVIEWS What was in the air yesterday is now official: Tim Matthys is swapping Anderlecht for KV Mechelen. At the Kakkers, Matthys will hold the position of sporting director. "Actually, I had no intention of leaving Anderlecht, but I couldn't refuse this opportunity," he says.


Matthys, who was active as a player for KV Mechelen for many years, is leaving purple-white after less than a year. "I want to thank Anderlecht, and in particular president Wouter Vandenhaute and Peter Verbeke. They showed great understanding when I expressed my desire to join KV Mechelen."

"Also, the way we arranged everything among ourselves shows that Anderlecht is and always will be a great club," Matthys said. "I am therefore sure they will return to the top of Belgian football."
