Late lucky goal secures three points

GAMES Anderlecht won with 0-1 in Charleroi after a moderate and difficult match. The goal fell late in the match when Zorgane handled a rebound unhappily into his own goal. Purple and White did get the better chances tonight, although it did lose Debast after an injury.


Ball possession for Anderlecht in the early stages of the match, but it only resulted in half a chance for Stroeykens. After a duel, Debast left the pitch injured after 15 minutes. Hopefully the injury was not too bad, as the defender had to be supported during his trip to the dressing room. Moments later, Amuzu gave a late Christmas gift to Nkuba, but luckily he decided hastily on Verbruggen. Immediately the biggest chance before half-time.

After half an hour, Charleroi took control of the match and Purple and White barely kept the ball in their own ranks. There was no successful Anderlecht attack at all. For the home side, Heymans extended dangerously at the first post on a corner in minute 35. Verbruggen was on hand and pushed the ball cleverly out of goal. Talk of a soporific display.

Just after half-time, Purple White were awarded a couple of free kicks. On the third attempt, an effort by Stroeykens swirled just wide. In minute 56, a great chance followed for Amuzu after a long ball from Trebel, but as is often the case, the striker did not stay cool enough. However, Anderlecht's better moments were soon over again and it regularly lost the ball in a childish way. Just before minute 70 Charleroi once more, but another attempt by Heymans was blocked.

Five minutes later, Delcroix worked away just in time for Golizadeh's nose. Anderlecht remained frantically looking for a scarce chance. And it did come, again for Amuzu. Raman crossed, Ait El Hadj let run for Amuzu who kicked the great chance at Koffi, but the rebound still capered into goal via Zorgane. Charleroi put everything into the closing stages, but all in all, Purple White held up well.

This way Anderlecht takes home the three points and with games against Union and Club Brugge coming up, that is certainly no luxury.
