INTERVIEWS Islam Slimani is the striker Anderlecht got on Deadline Day. Coach Brian Riemer and CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg both said that they fully believe in the Algerian's added value. "He has qualities that we were still missing at that position," Riemer said.
"I am very happy with his arrival," Riemer told reporters. According to the coach, Anderlecht informed themselves well before letting Slimani sign. He sees that the striker has qualities that his current strikers do not have. "He is big and strong. You can pass him the ball in the foot. That way we can move up. Islam also provides presence in the box."
Fredberg also indicated that Slimani had been on their list for a while. "Preferably we buy young players that we can sell on in the long run at a profit, but given the current situation I don't think it's wrong to get an experienced striker," Fredberg said. "We have good strikers with Stroeykens, Raman and Stassin, but they have a different profile. Slimani can be a short-term solution to our problem."
