OTHER Ten match days have been played and Anderlecht is second to leader Union by one point. It has been years since Anderlecht was ranked so high. The lead with Club Brugge is five points. La Dernière Heure fished out that this gap has never been bigger since Marc Coucke took over.
May 2017. We have to go back that far to see another five-point difference between Anderlecht and Club Brugge, the club that has had the most success and brought in the most money (through the Champions League) in recent years. May 2017. That was when Anderlecht just celebrated its 34th and final national title.
Purple and White had won 1-3 at Charleroi on the penultimate match day of Play-Off 1. Club Brugge had then lost at KV Oostende, where Coucke was still in charge at the time. The gap between Anderlecht and Club Brugge was then seven points, and the same on the final matchday a week later.
Nine matches without defeat
After the loss on the opening day, Anderlecht now has six wins and three draws. Nine matches without defeat, that was ago from late 2021 - early 2022. In match ten it went wrong against Cercle Brugge (0-2). Will the current Anderlecht succeed in reaching double figures though? We will know in two weeks after a visit to Sclessin.
