Marcenio: "I just want to keep winning"

OTHER Marcenio came to RSCA Futsal during the summer term. The Brazilian (35) was hampered by injuries but is now fully fit.


Initially Marcenio combined grass and indoor soccer, but early in his career he made a final choice. "Both sports are very popular in Brazil. At 18, I already knew I would choose indoor soccer. With my technique, I felt completely comfortable. I grew up near Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Until 2012, I played for Carlos Barbosa in my home country. Then my European adventure began. For six years I played for Ugra Yugorsk in Russia. In 2016, I won the Champions League for the first time with that team by beating Intermovistar in the final."

Barcelona
Marcenio then donned the shirt of Barcelona. With that team, he won four national titles, four Spanish Cups, three Supercups and two more Champions Leagues. Marcenio also won the Copa Libertadores twice and has more than 50 caps for Brazil. 

And now Anderlecht
"I just want to keep winning. In the beginning it was difficult. I was injured and my family was in South America. Today everything is going well. Of course you can't compare Barcelona to Anderlecht, but I arrived at a club that is in full swing. The people work well here. Last year Anderlecht surprisingly eliminated Barcelona. That hurt, but defeats are part of futsal.

Champions League
"At the end of the month the two teams will meet again in the Champions League, but then I will be on the other side. I played five years for Barcelona and I have some unique memories. My two other wins in the Champions League were highlights, of course. On Friday I will be just as motivated when we host Herentals."
