OTHER In the Netherlands, Ruud Geels passed away today at the age of 75. The striker played for Anderlecht in the 1978-1979 season. He then scored 34 goals in 38 games.
Geels was already 30 years old when he swapped Ajax for Anderlecht in 1978. With the Amsterdammers, he had just become top shooter of the premier league four years in a row. He scored 30, 29, 34 and 30 league goals respectively.
At Anderlecht, Geels just continued scoring. In 29 league matches, he scored 25 goals. In the Cup of Belgium, he was good for nine goals in seven matches.
Yet Geels returned to the Netherlands after only one year. There he went on to score goals for Sparta and PSV. In 1984, at the age of 36 and as a player for NAC, he hung up his shoes.
Geels also played twenty international matches for the Dutch national team. In those, he scored eleven goals.
