TRANSFERS Fredberg seems to have been working on possible reinforcements (and leavers) during the winter break for a while now. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Irish central defender Liam Scales is one of Fredberg's possible targets. Scales is 25 years old and a regular at Scottish side Celtic.

Scales, who like Vertonghen is left-footed, swapped Shamrock Rovers in his homeland for Celtic in August 2021. In his first season there, he did not come off the bench much. Last season followed a loan spell to Aberdeen, where he started in the starting lineup in all but one game.

Last summer, Scales returned to Celtic through the big gate. Of the fourteen league games already played by Celtic this season, he played twelve of them from the first to the last minute. In the pool phase of the Champions League, he did not miss a second of the first four games.

In October, Scales made his debut for the Irish national team. During the last three games in the European Championship preliminary round, he was at the kickoff each time.

Scales still has a contract at Celtic until mid-2025. Transfermarkt estimates his market value at €650,000, but the last adjustment was made just after last season. Given his performance this season, his market value must have risen.
